Hockey University – Intro to Officiating

Key Details:
  • You will receive an email from Hockey Canada with access to the course upon registration.
  • The course can also be accessed through your Spordle account calendar.
  • The course takes approximately 3–4 hours to complete.
  • Progress is saved automatically, so you can complete it in multiple sessions.
  • This course only needs to be completed once in your officiating career.
  • If you have previously completed Hockey University (HU 1/2), you do not need to take this course again.

To try and ensure that all new officials receive games and are able to develop their officiating skills, SGMHA does limit the number of new officials each year.

Clinic Links will go live on Friday, August 1.  Please email Glenna wagnerglenna@gmail.com for the clinic link you require.  DO NOT SHARE CLINIC LINKS
When you register for your clinic, there are pre-requisite modules that need to be completed.  The link for these shows up when you register for the clinic.  This is brand new as of August 1.  We just found out about this today.

New and returning level 1 officials - 13-14 years old

Returning Level 2 - 15 - 17 years old

Senior -  18+ years old   Will require a current Criminal Record Check to register for the clinic

NEW Officials - must complete the online course BEFORE requesting the clinic link.

Looking forward to another great season ......... after a great summer break  :)

HOCKEY ALBERTA OFFICIATING PROGRAM

The Hockey Canada Officiating Program (HCOP) offers participants of all ages an opportunity to be involved in the game beyond playing. By following the levels of development, and with hard work and dedication, officials can find fulfillment in their advancement while making the game safe, fair and fun.

The Hockey Canada Officiating Pathway is the foundation for all officials across the country. Hockey Canada has categorized hockey into five basic streams, each with different priorities. They include:

  • Introduction
  • Recreational
  • Competitive
  • High Performance
  • Adult Recreational

The pathway has been developed to address the following components of the program at both the Member and national levels:

  • Inclusivity and gender neutrality.
  • Defining a process to allow individuals to join the system at the appropriate level.
  • Providing equal opportunities for officials of the same skill level.
  • Developing a national standard that is adhered to by the Members.
  • Building flexibility into a linear system.
